    Receiving a shipped snake

I understand that snakes are shipped overnight and that someone has to be there to sign for the package. However, I assume that most snakes are shipped for weekday delivery rather than risk a non-delivered package over the weekend...which brings up my question...how quickly do you have to remove the snake from the packaging?

I could take a day off from work to receive a package, but I'd rather not if I didn't have to...if I got the snake shipped to me at work (no problem there), would it be ok in the shipping box until I got home (I would already have the enclosure set up and adjusted for temps, humidity, etc)? Should I open the box and check the snake in whatever container it's in? I would definitely like to avoid actually removing the snake itself while in the office for many reasons...don't want to stress the snake any more than it already is, don't want to freak out my coworkers, etc.

Sounds like your best bet would be to have it delivered to your work.

Open it up prior to signing for it to make sure it has made the journey ok. And it should be plenty fine in the container it was shipped in while you finish out your day of work.

Here is the thing. Most breeder's require you to check the animal when it arives. If you leave it in the box and don't check it that voids the guarentee that it will arive live.

I leave animals in their shipping box here at the office all the time but I do open the box and check the animals first.

Perfect, that is exactly what I was hoping, thanks! Opening the box to make sure the snake is alive won't be a problem.

I'm not 100% sure I'm going to be buying this way or at an Expo (the NY Expo is close and is held every couple months), but of course, there's no way to know for certain whether there's a snake there that I'd like...I'm thinking about a pastel at this point (which seems to be readily available just about everywhere).

I love the look of an all-white snake, but I can't justify spending that kind of money at this point...maybe down the road, though! Albinos are ok, but I don't really like the yellow with the white.

Just curious why having the delivery guy there when you open the box matters? They won't do anything if it comes in DOA.

I didnt have to sign for anything. They didnt even give it to me, my mom came home and it was at the doorstep. I was at work and she called me and told me. I was very pissed, to say the least.

Because, depending on the carrier, you can refuse the shipment right then and there and start your claim with the driver.
