Hide to small?
I have a hatchling ball python that was hatched in April of 2009. I have kept her in the black plastic hides from www.reptilebasics.com. They are the small size. Lately I have noticed that she will have half of her body inside the hide and half outside. Are they too small? I am afraid to remove it because she is always hiding as if she likes the security of them.
By the way I went to a local reptile show and got another ball python. They are addicting little creatures!

One of mine uses its old hide as a hat more or less it didnt like the larger ones i got and would sit in the fake plants behind them,i put the old one back in and about 1/3 will fit inside and its perfectly happy.

Re: Hide to small?
The hide that Atticus currently uses the most is definitely big enough for her, but she still settles under it in a way that, like Prophet said about his snake, looks as if she is wearing it on top of her instead of her simply being under it.

Mine can also fit into their hides but use them as hats instead. I say as long as they are using them and eating regularly there is nothing to worry about!

So, do you recommend ever upgrading their hides? I'm asking because I was questioning the same thing about Toby... he's bursting out of his hide, and I thought of upgrading when I move him into his tub (this week). Will that just stress him out?

Re: Hide to small?
Well he will probably be cruising for a few days or not using the hides if thats what you mean. Eventually he will adjust though.
My snakes still technically fit in their hides, they just let their butts hang out.

Re: Hide to small?
I have upgraded my hides twice. Both times it was because my BP was lifting the hides up to fit in them. I just tried to upgrade them again and apparently I acted to soon. She was not happy at all and we are back to the old hides.

Re: Hide to small?
The good thing about the RBI hides is that they are dark. If you upgrade and it is a bit too big just add a couple balls of newspaper to take up some space...
