    Farewell My Friend

After years of care and dedication, our male Argentine Black & White tegu, Mumps, was put down last week as he was no longer himself.

We fostered Mumps from the local reptile zoo after he was dumped there by the previous owner. We fell in love with him immediately and brought him home. Soon after we discovered the reason for the dump: infections. He developed a large one on the back of his head that had been drained before the dump.

To make a long story short, after 5 surgeries, loads of care and a bone cancer diagnosis, Mumps stopped using his rear legs and started to refuse food. We knew then that he was at the end.

He was an awesome lizard, allowed free run in the yard in the summer and he would still seek me out and claw at my feet to be picked up.

    RIP My Friend.

He also knew that it was easy to distract us during his "healthcare" sessions...
