homemade fishing lures
Just completed my first wooden lure ever! Carved from basswood, through wiring for the hook anchors and line ties, painted with an airbrush, only tools for shaping were sandpaper, a hand saw, and a dremel.

I'm pretty happy with it!
I've already become addicted to making fishing lures, I even went out and picked up a band saw today, boy does that cut down on the time to cut wood.. I already finished shaping a 4 jointed swimbait today. It'll be completed in a few days I hope!

What do you fish for?Bass?Bottom Dwellers? Most likely bass since that looks like a top water bait or spinner bait in the making.

Re: homemade fishing lures
This lure is for targeting pike, bass, and perhaps early season musky.

it looks good, how does it swim thats the important part.

Re: homemade fishing lures
The action for a first-time wood lure is better than I expected.. I was aiming for anything better than the lure exploding into 1000 splinters as soon it hit the water lol..
I'm going to cheat and put a plastic lip on the lure to give it a wider wobble, right now the first two joint's dont swim as much as I was hoping, but the tail has a nice tight oscillation.
I'm already working on another wooden lure, which if things go as planned should get a very sexy slow S-shaped swimming action.

Re: homemade fishing lures
Hope you coated, so it doesn't absorb all the water.

Re: homemade fishing lures
Nice. I like it alot. I think I could get into doing that too, but I only really fish for flathead catfish, but I guess I could make some luers for catching the bluegill bait I use.
