Exclamation How do you knockout a mouse??

I have been feeding my snake fuzzies but the Pet shop I always go to didn't have any left. SO I got a small hopper or what ever you wish to call it. And it is a feisty little thing. So I am curious as to the best way to knock it out? I do not want it to bite my snake.

Re: How do you knockout a mouse??

If you only wish to stun the mouse, there are a few options, but if you don't get it right, the mouse suffers. When I want to stun a small mouse, I usually hold them still and flick them in the back of the head, hard! This will knock them out for a few seconds. I've always had success with this method, especially for smaller prey items. I can tell you though, this does not work for anything larger than an adult mouse. I tried once and gave a poor ran wean a seizure. I was horrified!

You could also slam the mouse on a hard surface but this doesn't always work and normally results in the mouse being severely injured and in a lot of pain instead of knocked out like you wanted.

    They have a few ways.

You can also ask the shop to kill it for you, or freze it the day before you come, if your a regular most shops will do it.

I can pluck hard, so I hold the mouse by the tail and pluck it hard, which I really wouldn't recommend doing if you don't know what you're doing because the mouse will suffer. I don't really think anybody would recommend you doing it. The only reason I do it is because I know with the pluck I will kill the mouse, as I useto play the plucking game in high school and broke several fingers doing so.

Roofies? j/k I'd just throw the mouse in with the snake and let him handle it.

Re: How do you knockout a mouse??

Flicking the head works well. When getting baby bps started I found that a lively hopper just scares thgem, but a dead mouse does not get thier interest. So by flicking the mouse gets stunned but it still moves enough to getthe bps interest. Best thing is if the bp doesnt eat it the mouse usually is completely fine after 15 mind and I put it back to try agian another time.

Re: How do you knockout a mouse??

Glad it worked out for you. How big is your ball python though? A mouse hopper seems mighty small. You said you've been feeder her fuzzies. That must be a very tiny ball python. I'm feeding my 37g hatchling a fuzzy (well, I would be if she'd eat it. )

Re: How do you knockout a mouse??

Good thing that the store ran out of fuzzies because those are definitely too small to feed to a BP anyway.

As for the hopper yes they are like jumping beans however they are harmless, so I would let the snake do the job.
