Temperature extremes
Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if this is a problem or not - I usually keep my temps at 90/91 hot side and 81/82 cool side. But, with the summer heat and not having central air - my hot side temps are staying pretty much spot on but my cool side temps are going to 84 during the heat of the day - is this okay???
I do run a window unit on the days when it is just too hot and muggy but try to limit their use when I can to save on electricity.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thx.

Perfectly fine. My snake room ranges from 82-87 in the summer.

Re: Temperature extremes
You don't worry that there isn't much of a gradient from the hot and cold side when the cool side raises up like that - that was my only concern.
Thanks for your input.

Not at all. You want to have a temp gradient but as long as the highest temperature doesn't exceed 92-94 or so and the lowest doesn't go below 80 or so then you'll be fine with daytime highs getting to the mid 80s in the room. I have always kept my snake room on the hot side without issue.

Re: Temperature extremes
But, the temps I am mentioning are the actual temps inside the enclosure not the room - does that make any difference.
Thanks.

Not a bit...Ball Pythons come from Africa. I would be willing to guess they can't always find a 90-92 hot spot or 80-82 cool spot. Sometimes the temperature fluctuates. I actually like 82-84 for the cool side anyway. You are doing fine!
Hope this helps.

Re: Temperature extremes
Great - I appreciate your help. I am fairly new to keeping BP's and always worry about everything being just perfect for them.
I feel better now that I don't have to worry about the increases temps occassionally.
Thanks.

Never a problem. You can always find good information on this forum. We have some of the most knowledgeable breeders and keepers around. It's great to see people that are just starting out to want to do things the best they can for the animals!
