    I can't speak for the original poster, but as for myself... it's not that I don't have money, it's just that I can't justify spending extra when something cheaper works fine. If one of my pets - of any species - needs veterinary care, that is a completely different situation. I have emergency credit cards, savings, and even parents as a last resort... hate to admit it, but my mother paid the $800 bill when my dog ate a poisonous plant.

    My point is that just because someone says "I can't afford this-or-that," don't assume they aren't prepared for an emergency. Some people have different budgets/resources for separate things, and can usually come up with money for the important stuff. Otherwise, I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying.
