Routine Deworming?
I was cleaning my snakes yesterday and was quite alarmed when I saw something moving in the feces. I took 6 different snakes poop samples into the vet today to get fecals.
Two of them tested positive for pinworms. I was informed that snakes usually get pinworms from prey items, particularly live ones. I was sent home with enough juice to treat my entire collection. Nothing like spending a Saturday afternoon dosing angry, poop flinging snakes and the smell of bleach in the snake room.
I was also told that it might be a good idea to routinely deworm them annually. I never thought about that. It makes sense.
I'm curious. How many people routinely deworm their snakes on a regular basis as a preventative measure?

Re: Routine Deworming?
I don't, but I also strictly feed F/T as I have yet to care for a snake in my own home that was picky about feeders.

Yeah, I also feed f/t and only have one snake, so I'm not too worried about her coming in contact with worms.

Re: Routine Deworming?
I only have 2 snakes, and I switch back and forth between live & f/t depending on what I have on hand, and if I have time to actually thaw it out or so. I don't deworm my snakes, but I always glance over everything.

Re: Routine Deworming?
I would only deworm them if they actually had worms. I don't think it is necessary to deworm all of them once a year, especially if none of them have worms.
Then again, if you can afford to and think it will be better for your snakes then go for it.

Re: Routine Deworming?
I do it with any new animal, but not something I do annually.
Now I DO do frequent fecals on my stuff just to make sure everyone is in tip top shape.
But no ritualistic deworming.
