King that's always aggressive..

I've had this King snake for about 3-4 years now. Got him from Petco too. He was nice in the beginning, but now he's like a monster. Every time I open the cage, he rushes out thinking he's being fed. When you take him out, he immediately thinks of you as a threat. He's only a little over 2 feet long, and ya I know that's a bit small for his age. Don't know why he's that small. I've tried to tame him down a bit, and it did work. He was nice, and he even let you pick him up right out of the enclosure with no problem. He bit me one day, thinking I was feeding him, and I stopped handling him because I didn't want to keep getting bit which was a stupid idea. Now, he's still that mean snake. Any techniques you've successfully used or any techniques you've heard of that worked well?

I feed him 1 f/t small mice each week. He seems very full once he takes it down.

When a snake percieves you as a threat, and it bites you and you move away, it sees that and it knows that when it bites you, you(the threat) go away. So that's why he will keep biting. What you need to do is get a thin layer gloves, from like Wal-mart, or something, some gardening gloves, then handle him. After a few attempts of him biting and you not going away he will eventually tame down a bit, how much depends on both you and him. Start out with handling him once-twice a week, then up the handling frequency. I hold my 2 snakes several times a week, except for the past month or 2 because of work and such, and mine are still as docile as ever, though my conda seems like she is getting a bit head shy, so I started with the handlings more frequent and she doesn't mind me petting her on the head anymore.

I've tried that before, and he tried to eat my wrist . Though, I'll keep trying.

You just have to work with him, in time he will settle down. I don't mind getting bit so it really don't bother me. I would try to pet him on top of his head and when he bit my finger, I would continue to pet him on top of his head. I would show him that there is no violence, or any threat, only love, just love. lol

Quantity of food can be a hard choice sometimes. Can always try to feed a second mouse at a feeding to see if that calms him down. I wouldn't hold the snake for a day or two after you feed it so it has a chance to digest though. That aside, does it just snap at you as you try to get it out of the enclosure, or does it keep biting you even after when you are holding it?

She can try the more food method, but I don't think that will resolve the issue.
