Such a pretty little thing
I was helping my mom dump out a water tub and lookie what I found.

Nice Racer specimen methinks. Kinda feisty too. It's not doing much but exploring the tank. I put in a grasshopper since the younger one I had awhile back at those and crickets..This one isn't too interested. It might be too big for insects now and might need pinkies.

Re: Such a pretty little thing
It probably doesn't want to eat now since it's probably stressed. It is pretty though, and in the second pic I see the grasshopper xD

Re: Such a pretty little thing
Yep. I'll give it a week or two. I have a pinkie in the freezer that I can try. if it doens't seem to be interested in the bugs.

Re: Such a pretty little thing
I would give it about a week before you tried to feed it. I would also try a live pinkie for your first feeding and not a F/T one, since its WC.

Ben Biscy, hope I spelled that right, is the guy to go to for Racer info.
No wait, he's the go to guy for Ratsnakes.
No wait...I forget, one of them he's REALLY up on the other he'll help you out with, no doubt about it.
Cool racer, ooops, er snake.
You may want to try him on a lizard or frog too.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

Re: Such a pretty little thing
I woke up this morning and found the new guy up on the lip of the tank (I'm currently using a ten gal tank with a home made metal mesh lid until the permanent snake tank is finished being repaired; long story short, aunt got a 10 gal reptile tank with a sliding lid plus all sorts of reptile goodies for 4! at a garage sale; the reptile tank had a cracked glass end, so that's being repaired suing fish tank caulking).
We stared at each other until he slithered down and hid back in the corner. How, he has discovered the hide and is currently curled up in that with his head poking out.

Re: Such a pretty little thing
He ate! I got up this morning and noticed that he was out, plus had dropped a load int he corner. He wasn't at all scared of me. So, out of curiosity, I thawed the frozen pinkie (left it in it's plastic baggy and put it in a bowl of hot water to let it warm up until I felt no cold and it was nicely warm). I pulled it out and held onto the tail with a pair of surgical clamps I have. He struck it and got a good hold then I let go and started pulling my hand out. He dropped it and slithered to the other corner. I picked the pinkie up again and wiggled it in front of him again. He kept striking at it and missing (probably not used to the dangle and strike method), but then he grabbed it, I let go, left my hands in, and he started eating it. It got some aspen shavings on it, but not too bad. I wasn't about to disturb his meal. He got it down and seemed 'happy', so to speak. Looks like I'll go into town tomorrow and get some mice.
