    July Breeding

Hi guys. First time poster here but just wanted to ask a couple of questions. I put my male with a couple of females last week and within two hours of bieng introduced he locked pretty much straight away and stayed locked for around 4-5 hours a time. I wasnt planning on breeding them this early but curiosity got the better of me. I was just wondering if any of you guys breed this time of the year (pythons of course) and if so how many locks do you look for before you consider a good chance of fertilization happening.

Also is ther any accepted time scale from breeding to egg laying ect. I know about pre ov sheds and tthings but i was curious as to the total length of time from conception to bieng gravid to egg laying

Thanks for keeping me entertained on the forum

    Andy

    Re: July Breeding

I've heard that one time will do ya.. but I've also heard that you keep paring them until she refuses the male, Your not doing any large scale breeding with rotations so you would be ok to just keep paring them until they no longer lock up, and be sure to give the male breaks between his times with his females. The general rule of 3 days in and 3 days rest.

I'm doing the same myself at the moment with July breeding which will be my first year if she actually takes, July is actually considered very late in the season, but people manage to breed almost any time of the year.

I'm not sure about the time scale but I'm thinking at least a couple months before you see -anything-, but every female is different, I've been paring for about a month now with 5 confirmed locks, still nothing but she is still accecpting the male.
