Hatchling Coming, would like to see YOUR Setups.

    Hi there everyone!
1st off, I've been reading everything I can on this forum for the past month and 1/2, and this is one great forum/resource. I come from the Aquarium Hobby, and I am venturing into reptiles, with a Ball being my 1st. I currently am waiting for a Female Normal to get up a little bigger (She's only 50g) and I will then pick her up from the breeder.

Some Background Info about my supplies:

-I found a deal and bought a display tank that came from a petstore (locking glass doors, Acrylic everything else. It was originally 48" Long and had a divider in the center to house 2 animals. I cut the whole thing in half and now I have 2! Not a bad deal for 60$.

    - I then figured I would save this enclosure for when the snake is an adult.

    - I also found a source of paper for the tank. Its Newsprint paper without print on it from an art supply store. 24 x 18 sized sheets (fits my Large enclosure perfectly) and was $2.50 per 40 sheets. Which I don't mind paying so I don't have to store a giant roll!

    - I am going to build a small melamine "rack" type deal. (only 1 tier), to accommodate the tubs I plan on using for grow-out.
This is the tub i have now, but i'm going to look for something a little bigger.

    - Also pictured there is a Digital Thermometer/Humidty, with probe, that i got fro 9$ on sale. (Has a nice MIN/MAX feature where it logs temp/Humidity)

SO (Finally i get to my point!)... I have been having trouble finding pictures of tubs/tanks setup for hatchlings. Excuse my ignorance if i've missed an obvious thread (I saw the STICKY about glass tanks), but I'm curious as to what the INSIDE of your tubs/ racks/ tank setups. So I can gauge SIZE of HIDE/Water bowl.

Everyone says put 2 hides in there. BUT if i go by the small tub sizes I've read for a hatchling/small snake, I can't imagine fitting 2 hides PLUS a water bowl in there!

    Any Info/Advice would be appreciated!

    Thank you!

I have two hatchling tubs setup. One for a 73g BP and one for a 125g BST. It's crowded, but you can fit two small hides and a small water dish in there.

BP's tub. There is only one hide in the picture (the other is going through the dishwasher currently).

Without the vines, you can see there is room for the other hide. The hides are 4" plastic bowls and the water dish is an espresso mug that is velcroed to the wall so she can't tip it. I think I found the plastic bowls in the baby supplies section of Walmart.

My borneo needed a larger water bowl and is not kept on any heat, so one hide is sufficient for him. Hide is a 6" flower pot base.

Good luck with your little female when she arrives!

For tub set up, mine's about the same as above. Minus the plant and in a dark rack.
When my first hatchling was in a tank...I did have two hides, a water bowl, and three sides wrapped. It's a 15 gal long. This tank is now my quarantine tank.

That's a perfect example, thank you so much Cobweb2000!
    - 1 Question, what size tub is that ? (for reference)
    Thank you too Snakelady!
I assume that maybe most of your hatchling tubs are similar to Cobweb's so I suppose there's no need to post any more, UNLESS you have something different, in which i'd love to see that too!

Here's my 15qt tub set up, I've raised animals in these from about 100g-800g.

Edit: I would definitely go with something smaller than 15qt if he's only 50g. 6qt tub till he grew a bit.

Thanks Cobweb, that helps a lot!
Spaniard, Thanks for that pick of what it looks like with 2 hides. Pretty much door to door, which I figured it would have to be, this validates it for me though!
I like those hides too, I'm trying to decide on whether I want those (they seem really overpriced in my area compared to how much i've seen them online for!) or do the "find your own and alter it approach" i see a lot of.

They will go through a few sizes during their first 2 years. The DIY route is good because you can make the early sizes that aren't going to be used long from economical means (aka the dollar store in most instances).
