UTH question
I got up last night and I decided to check my temp probes, the hotspot was at 107 im guessing my t-stat I bought quit working or is defective, so I ended up setting the tank on some 2x4's and having a fan blow air underneath over the uth. This has kept it around 92-97 (according to my mix-max readings that I reset when i did this) I have the t-stat unplugged but id like to find out one that is a decent one that usually doesn't fail and try to cook my snakes.
Yes i do have spacers under the tank also.

Also, what are you using to measure the temps?
It was one with a knob, i got it from petco for like 25-30 bucks.
Ive got an acu-rite one with a probe for "outdoor" temp along with indoor temp and humidity.

Re: UTH question
Where was the thermostat probe? That could have a lot to do with it.

Re: UTH question
If your snake is laying right on top of your acu-rite probe, it'll make the temp your acu-rite is reading go up.

When i checked the acu-rite probe was worked up ontop of the substrate would taping it to the glass be better (still fairly new to balls)

Re: UTH question
Ok, if you got it from a pet store and it is knob operated, that is NOT a thermostat. That is a rheostat and they are worthless unless the room the snake is in is kept at a Constant temperature 24/7. Those things fluctuate with the surrounding temps.
If you don't have the money to get a good t-stat (Johnson for $80 is cheapest) then you can get by with the ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R thermostat. $20 or so at ReptileSupply.com. It's an actual t-stat that does the job until you can afford the better stats.
Otherwise, get yourself a Johnson, Ranco, or Herpstat. Those are $80, $80, and $100+ respectively.
Once you have an actual thermostat that keeps temps constant, you shouldn't have as much trouble if any.

Absolutely. If you're looking for the best tstat money can buy, it's the Herpstat.
