UTH attachment
For some reason, I've been having trouble getting the foil tape to keep sticking my UTH to my tub. It just keeps peeling off. I don't want to use duct tape because it never comes off (for cleaning) and leaves residue.
So, while at Walmart today, I picked up some cheap magnet strips. If I used magnets to attach the UTH to the tub, do you think it could affect either the UTH itself or the snake?
Thanks.

Re: UTH attachment
I'm sorry I can't help you out with your question. I just bought my UTH and was at Lowe's looking for Foil Tape today and he suggested Velcro strips. I couldn't tell if he knew what he was talking about or not so I by passed that idea.
I did want to make sure that I bought the right tape though. The package says "Aluminum Foil Tape". Is that the right stuff???
Also, if it is correct, then do I simply peel off the paper on the UTH and stick the tape on it (covering the sticky side)? Then attach it to the bottom of my tank? Is it supposed to go on the warm side?

If you're using the foil tape DO NOT peel off the paper on your UTH. Aluminum foil is not a good conductor of heat.(Have you ever put aluminum foil in your oven to cover the racks and notice that after you're done baking your brownies the aluminum foil is still cool enough to pick up with your fingers?)
If you put the aluminum tape between the tank and the UTH you'll find yourself having heating problems. Just keep the paper on, slap the UTH on the bottom of the tank and tape it in place.

That's not true. Aluminum foil is a great conductor of heat. The reason it feels cool after being in the oven is because is transfers thermal energy so much faster than the pan or whatever is being baked. If it wasn't a good conductor, then why would we line baking pans with it? The food would never cook on the bottom.
Mine is lined with foil tape and works fine for me.

Re: UTH attachment
what about those painters masking tapes? Just keep a roll nearby, last good while.
those magnetic things that you are talking about is good idea. Wont affect the snake at all but for UTH, I won't suggest it. It might affect the ability of those wire to produce heat. I could be wrong.

Yeah, I didn't want to take any chances. Maybe it's just the pieces I used of the foil tape or something. I know it works for a lot of other people. I just hate having to take apart the entire tub to tinker with it.
