    Pastel Ghost??

Ok, so I have a male that is pastel ph ghost and I have a normal female that is ph ghost and I will breed them together when they get the right size. I have a few questions on the genetics. If I would breed the pastel to a normal female then i would get pastels that are what percentage ph for ghost? Would it be 33% for that considering the pastel is 66% ph ghost already? I was curious what chance I had for making a pastel ghost? I think I figured one day that I had a 12.5% chance of making one considering it was 50% for a pastel and they are both hets so it is a 25% chance of getting a ghost. If my numbers are right I have a 50% chance of one of those ghosts being a pastel which makes 12.5% ....tired of numbers yet? Are there many pastel ghosts out there right now? How much do those usually range, price wise? Anyone help me out???

If Your male proves to be a 100% het then any offspring You produced from breeding him to a Normal are 50% het Hypo...If he doesn't prove any offspring produced aren't carrying the Hypo gene.

Until You prove him they are basically Normal Pastels...If You sell any You can disclose they were produced from a poss. het Hypo that You haven't proved.

Your quickest route to proving him is breeding him to an actual Hypo...Even if he isn't a het all the offspring from this breeding will be 100% hets.

Yeah, I realize that I must prove them out before any of this will happen. I am assuming that they prove out and I am doing all the genetics in the case that they both prove to be 100% het for ghost. I was just curious if all of the assumptions that I have made will be true given they prove out. Sorry, should have mentioned this before.

Well if the pair proves to be 100% het Hypos...You could produce Hypos, Pastel Hypos, Pastels 66% Het Hypos and Normal 66% Het Hypos.

What is the chance of me producing a pastel hypo and what is the price tag on this morph right now is what I am asking basically.

    Re: Pastel Ghost??

I did pretty much the same breeding as you this year except my pastel male was 100% chance het hypo. My female was 50% chance het hypo but I picked her to be the keeper based on being the brightest female (half that 50% chance het hypo clutch was much brighter than the other half, can't prove it was the het hypos though).

Anyway, I got lucky and proved my female het but wasn't lucky enough to hit the pastel hypo combo in the same snake.

If both of your animals are het hypo you have a 25% chance per egg of being a hypo along with a 50% chance per egg of being a pastel for a combined 12.5% (1/8) chance per egg of being a hypo pastel. Your chance of producing at least 1 hypo pastel (if both parents are het) depends on the number of eggs hatched. With 5 eggs the chance of producing at least one hypo pastel from pastel het hypo to het hypo is 1 - (7/8)^5 = 48.7%. The 7/8 is the chance that each one isn't a hypo pastel (1 minus the 1/8 chance that it is).

But since you only have a 2/3 chance your male is a het and a 1/2 chance your female is a het that gives you a 2/6 = 1/3 chance you even have a pair of hets hypos to start with. I did hit those odds on 66% chance het albino X 50% het albino so by all means give it a try. You could say that combining the odds if you do hatch 5 eggs you have a 48.7% X 1/3 = 16.2% chance of hatching a pastel hypo. That’s close to 1 in 6.

    Good luck!

    Re: Pastel Ghost??

Sorry everyone, but I forgot to mention that they are both 66% het hypo, that could've been a good tidbit of info. Thanks Randy, I know where you are headed from there now. It would be awesome if the two prove out and I am looking on the positive side saying that 66% is better than 50%. I won't be able to prove them out or try to prove them out for about another year and a half or so, but i just thought that I would try to learn more about genetics. I am a math major so the percentages and finding probabilities isn't new, but the animal genetics part is where I am still picking it up. Randy, do you know how much you would sell a pastel hypo for? I probably wouldn't sell them if I produced them with the pair considering they are good for future projects but just curious. Thanks!

    Re: Pastel Ghost??

When my clutch was hatching and I was hoping I had a combo I checked and thought I saw one for $1,000. But I think I heard a different price later. At any rate, I missed and probably would also have been tempted to keep any one I hit on.

Right now I'm trying to figure out what a female pastel 66% chance het hypo is worth. I know a lot of people hate possible hets. Seems like they would rather have a 0% chance het and not worry about the chance of missing, lol.
