Some members of the general public might not want to hear it but both were preventable. I have seen both videos before, and I can clearly see warning signs in each. If I had a snake show such behavior at a demo it would have already been back in its box before either attack could have happened.
Besides that, with as slow as that girl reached up my hand/body would have already been in the way,Duh snakes don't like their head messed with and the mother had already ticked it of by petting its head. when kids are around I try to keep a snake's head close to me so if it does do anything I will be the one bitten even though in 7 years and many demos and showing people the lab I have never had a snake bite me or anyone else during one, If a snake shows even a little sign of having an off day it stays in its cage or is returned immediatly. If a cat hisses you don't let a kid put their hand in its face, to continue handling a clearly upset snake is not any different.

Stupidity strikes again, maybe its contagious, better avoid people afflicted with it , you don't want to catch it.
