Surprise Death
Hey guys came home today to find my 1 month old dead. Have no idea why. I just fed her thursday ate her mouse and was acting normal, I even saw her yesterday acting totally normal. You guys ever have something like this happen. She was 175 grams.

Re: Surprise Death
I'm so sorry. I haven't had it happen yet, but I know it's always a possibility. Had she been eating regularly? Did you get her from a pet store or a breeder?

Were you regulating the temperature of your heating device?

Re: Surprise Death
Sorry to hear this, especially from such a young Ball Python. I am not a herpetoligist so I am not going to start throwing out different possibilities but maybe your trained professional can give you a bit of insight on what happened with your beloved pet.

Re: Surprise Death
If the animal was born with some kind of serious health issue many dont make it to subadults.
Years ago I had a young smoking hot CH ringer that was fine and ate for weeks then one week was dead, no symptoms at all. Could have been nuerelogical, organ deformity/failure, who knows?
Sorry you lost your snake. It happens sometimes. If your husbandry is fine and you saw no symptoms there is not much you could have done,

Re: Surprise Death
I know with birds you can do a post mortem exam for around $50. I don't know if they can do it for snakes or if the cost would be around the same. Might be something to check out if you are curious enough to pay it. Sorry about your snake, I know that's gotta suck when there wasn't even a chance to try to prevent it.
