Am I doing the wright things
I have a adult female lepord geko.I have her in a 10 gallon tank. Paper towl for the substrate. Moist hide made of a tupperware container on the cool side. Dry hide made of a card board box on the warm side. 40 watt light bulb on the hot side. It is on a 10 hour cycle. Heat pad under the tank on the hot side.77-78 degrees on the cool side. 80-84 0n the warm side. plastic plants, food and water dishes. I feed crickets and meal worms.4 crickets a week with repto cal. 1 dozen meal worms a week. And 2 wax worms a week.Is this ok? I cannot find just powdered calcium for the tank inside in a dish. Can I feed super worms? Can they get pinworms from crickets? And should the Moist hide be on the warm side?

Leopard Geckos do NOT need lighting cycles at all.Just the light coming in from the windows is enough
Just provide a 75-79cool side and a 89-91 warm end at all times.
leave a small bow of water in at all times. Also have a feeding dish with meal worms available at all times. I also keep a small Gatorade cap filled with calcium at all times in the tub.
Moist hides i used coconut husk but you can use waht ever you want that is safe to use.
I would how ever upgrade the 10 gallon to a 20 if shes an adult.

Actually Leopards do need a light cycle, I use a 12 day/12night.
Granted, they don't need UV light, but they do need a light cycle to simulate natural conditions. They are nocturnal, and will need to be active at night.

Switch your hides so that the humid hide is on the warm side (you don't want a cold, wet gecko). Also raise your warm side temps to 88-90 degrees. You will need to find some calcium to keep in a small dish as well--you can order it online if you can't find any locally. As mentioned, you should make mealworms available at all times so the gecko can eat as needed--what you are feeding now is not enough for an adult. You can feed superworms, but I personally don't like them because they can bite if the gecko doesn't grab them right. It is possible for crickets to pass pinworms onto reptiles, so it is important to get your crickets from a clean source. You can get a fecal done on your leo to make sure it doesn't have any internal parasites at this point.

I do not use a light cycle with me leo's. When the light in the room comes on it is on, when it shuts off it is off. There are windows in the room and sunlight naturally comes in (they are on the other end of the room where the window is not).
My cool side is what your warm side is (80-84) and my warm side is 90-94.
I use a milk cap (white from the top of a milk jug from mcdonalds happy meals) to put calcium with out vitamin d in the tubs at all times.
I feed all mine super worms. Crickets can carry pinworms, die fast, they make a ton of noise and they stink!!! Supers do not pupate (like meal worms so they last a loooong time). You can feed one super to like 10 meal worms (just estimating here). I have always had a hard time getting the calcium with vita D to stick to meal worms but it sticks just fine to the supers. Supers also have less chitin then meal worms. The supers can bite your leo but I have never had a problem with it. I put the supers in with each one and watch them eat it (the supers do not stay in the tubs with them for any ammount of time. Supers are a bit fatty (compared to crix) so you have to watch that.
Do not feed wax worms except for as a treat. They are very addictive to leos and very fatty. Once a month at most I would say. I do not feed wax worms to my leos at all.
My moist hide is on my warm side. It is a tupperware container with paper towel inside. I spray the paper towel down when it dries out.

Re: Am I doing the wright things
I am thinking of african fat-tail geckos, and was told the requirements are the same as leos. What do you use as a substrate? Other than paper towels?
Loved all the info!

Re: Am I doing the wright things
For leos or fat tails I recommend paper towels or ceramic tiles for substrate.
FYI, superworms do pupate, they just take much, much longer to do so than mealworms.

Re: Am I doing the wright things
Thanks!
And I had superworms do the whole cycle for me before. I never got the babies to grow very big though, before they went to beetles again.
