    Escaped garter! Help!

So our checkered albino garter went officially missing from its tank tonight. We keep it in a 10 gallon tank, and apparently either my boyfriend or my boyfriend's brother forgot to put the lid on or left it off while they were away from the tank and now it's missing.

I can't think of any conceivable methods to lure it out of its hiding. Has this happened to anyone before, and what were some methods used in getting better odds of finding your garter? The thing is we have a dog, and I'm not sure if our dog would have got to it at any point. She's pretty wary of our BP even in the tank, and actually gets along quite well with our 2 rats, so we're keeping our hopes up that she didn't get to it first. Our garter was pretty feisty and fast moving, so hopefully its still enclosed in the house somewhere and didn't manage to slip out the door at some point.

Good luck, sounds like my watersnake. Levi, went and escaped somehow last week and I haven't been able to find him. Good luck on finding him.

Way back when I had my garter he got out. I was young and had no idea he could push open a lid on a 20 gal tank. Well, long story short, we couldn't find him. A month later I'm watching TV in my room, and I see something come out of my closet! It took a second to process, but it was him. He'll turn up eventually.

I had a gartner snake get loose in my room when I was little. It was missing for a few days then I found it under my bed. Try looking in places that he could hide (under furniture and in cracks)

the one thing I hate about my garters... when one escapes the little bugger can go ANYWHERE!!! I have had success using flour as an aid. spoon piles of flour up against the walls of any room he might be in at random intervals. Especially on both sides of doorways. They like to crawl around up against the walls. When they run over the flour it flattens in so you can see that they have crawled through it. This will help you narrow down where to search. you can also sprinkle flour on the floor like a fine dust so you can see any trails the snake might leave behind!!!

also, leave plastic bags laying around, once again especially up against the walls. They make a lot of noise!!!
