These are the only het markings you should be worried about. This is what a Het Pied marker looks like

    Re: Het Markings?

The markers are not any kind of true indicator of being het Pied. Plenty of proven hets don't have them, so it makes them unreliable.

    Re: Het Markings?

I've got normals with het pied markers. And my 100% het pied doesn't have strong markers, so markers don't "prove" anything. A guarantee by a reputable breeder is the only proof you need.

ya with a het, its hit or miss. Mot hets look like a regular normal. At least thats what ive learned recently. Many people breed to "so called normals" together and get a surprise of a lifetime. some people are shady and sell regular normals as "so called hets". Always try and get proval that its a true het for something.

    Re: Het Markings?

Heterozygous is a term that means it carries one of the genes that your looking for. Co-dominant animals are heterozygous until you get a 'super' which is homozygous.

For recessive genes like Albinism, Pied, and Axanthic; heterozygous does not have a visual form. Because it is recessive, the Normal looking gene is dominant in that it completely shows over the recessive gene. Until it is homozygous and has both genes and no normal gene then it will show the genes trait.

So, a truly recessive animal or a Het, will not have any markers or characteristics that can determine the hidden gene.

    Re: Het Markings?

No harm intended..but a het can't be 100% accurately pick out from a normal. The only way to be 100 % sure is to buy from a reputable breeder. The card above happens to be for my 2005 Het pied male.

    Re: Het Markings?

I have a few 100% hets and they all look different from each other, but all look like normals, there are said to be markers for some of the traits (hypo and pied) but none are as reliable as the written/spoken truth of a reputable breeder.
