noob question
Hello all,
I bought a pastel female and a spider male about a month and a half ago with the intent of breeding them this fall. I had a bp when i was in HS about 11 years ago. My girlfriend hates snakes so i could never get one but when i spent a fortune on an engagment ring i had a free pass to do what i wanted for a few months. So i bought a f pastel and a m spider. I weighed them both today. The male spider weighed about 675g and the female pastel weighed 1050grams. And they both had just shed and pooped a ton. Do you think by october they will be ready to breed and make me some bees? If so how many eggs should i expect?
Also at the WP show i bought a 66% het albino F and a 100% het albino m. The male is about 500g and the f is about 765g. Do u think i can get her up to breeding weight this year or should i just buy an older 100% het albino f albino and just try to prove her out next year?
Thanks in advance
Charlie

I think the male spider is probably ready, but you might have to do a little work to get the pastel female up in time, but I think you should be good.
And with the hets, I say, just wait. If you do manage to get her up in time, good for you. but I am not so sure, you may just have to wait on that one.

Re: noob question
The female Pastel....maybe. You wanna shoot for at least 1500g or so. That's a fair amount to gain without feeding super heavy. Do you know how old she is? The male Spider will be fine though. Sounds like you are in a rush to start breeding. One thing I have learned from my very, very short time breeding is patience is a virtue.

My question to you would be - what's the rush? The het albino female - no, I don't think she'll breed this year. Why do you need to breed this coming fall? Why not spend this next year getting some good size on both of your females and breed the following season.
In the meantime, participate here, people will get to know you, you have a full year to build a reputation amongst the members here (which will also help you when you want to sell babies). There really are no shortcuts to breeding ball pythons. You really do need to "do your time".
A lot of people come on here buying larger females, hoping to take shortcuts to breeding (or taking time to raise up their girls), with very little hands on experience and within six months, they are either selling their animals in frustration, or they just disappear.
There's a lot more to consider than just putting two snakes together, there's housing for the babies, finding appropriately sized prey for the babies, incubator costs, thermostat costs, rack costs, vet costs, knowing how to deal with hatchlings that won't feed, and that can especially be an issue if they aren't set up properly.
And again - there's no guarantee, that when you put two animals together of appropriate size that they will even breed. I paired my lemon pastel last season with two females of appropriate size, and neither one of them took. I have three other projects that did, but these two didn't. And these were females I've raised since babies and are 3+ years old and much larger than your females.
I posted this link in another thread that I think is a good read for anyone who's really wanting to breed and is in a hurry to do so.
