    New to BP's w/heating questions

    Hi,
I'm hoping to have some luck with posting this here. I'm building an enclosure for a couple balls that I bought and wondering about the placement of the heating element. I'm going to use Flexwatt but was wondering if it would be safe/logical to put the flexwatt on one of the walls instead of on the bottom of the enclosure. I've seen it done both ways, and it seems that putting it on the wall if more safe because if there is a malfunction of some sort the snake would not be sitting directly on the flexwatt. Could someone please help?

There shouldn't be a problem with having the tub lay on the flexwatt if you use a reliable thermostat. I'd say that most people with racks use this type of setup.

With that said, back heat can work out as well but you will probably have to adjust the temps higher to achieve the same temps in the tub.

Belly heat. Just to clarify, the flexwatt goes on the OUTSIDE of the enclosure. Not sure if you are using tubs or something custom but either way, the snake should never have direct contact with the flexwatt.

I understand that the snake should not have direct contact with the flexwatt but to be sure that the correct amount of heat is provided for a stable temperature i am considering putting the flexwatt inside the enclosure covered with either a ceramic tile or Linoleum and a couple inches of substrate. The snake would never have direct contact with the heating source but from what I've heard from people that use the 11" flexwatt, use of this product on the outside of the cage does not provide sufficient heat.

If the flexwatt gets wet, you would be in trouble. Maybe you are looking for a radiant heat panel?

I have a PVC enclosure for my BP with the 11" flexwatt on the outside bottom and it heats up perfectly fine.

Yeah seperate enclosures, four individual ones actually but all sharing a single 4ft roll of flexwatt.

I'm gonna put it together with the flexwatt under the plywood, and test it out without the snakes before their introduced to make sure that I can aquire the correct temp and humidity within the enclosures.
