UTH set up.
Hi their everyone, I'm getting ready to set my uth up but unfortunetley do not know how to. Whats a reliable, yet cheap thermostat? Do I need a dimmer and what exactly is a dimmer? and how would I properly rig this all up? yeah, I'm a major newb to the uth idea, I haven't needed one but it seems I will in the near future.

Re: UTH set up.
The ReptiTemp 500R is recommended here. (I got mine via Amazon just last week.) Since the UTH puts out too much heat that could injure a snake, it needs to be controlled. Plug the UTH into the thermostat, then set it to the proper level. Monitor the temps with a reliable thermometer (Acu-Rite with wire probe, $12 at WalMart).
Hope that helps!

Re: UTH set up.
Once you get the UTH, it'll come with instructions on how to set it up and what not. You can use a Thermastat, like Patricia said. I've heard they're much easier and you don't have to tweak them as much. If you don't have the extra money to get a Thermastat (Like me, lol.) get a lamp dimmer. You plug the UTH into the lamp dimmer, plug the lamp dimmer into the wall, and tweak with the little slider thing until you get your temps right.
You'll want to experiment with this for 1-2 days before you get your snake, in case something goes wrong

Re: UTH set up.
Keep in mind that a dimmer will fluctuate quite a bit with changes in room temp. Thermostat with a probe is a better option if you can swing it.
