Re: Where do you put your temp probe?
Well.... You don't have enough options because the Thermostat probe and Thermometer probe go in two different places.
The thermostat probe is either taped onto the UTH (outside of the tank) or wedged in between the bottom of the tank and the UTH.
The thermometer probe is placed on the bottom of the tank/tub under all substrate.

Re: Where do you put your temp probe?
Sorry, the reason I used either thermostat probe or thermometer probe is to fit all participants. I realize that there are several people on this forum who do not use a thermostat and rely on dimmers to control their temps and wanted to make sure they were included.

Well, I've been going around in circles with this too, but the thermometer probe (oftentimes the Acu-Rite here) and the thermostat probe (several brands named here) are moniter two different things and so go in two different places, don't they?

Re: Where do you put your temp probe?
place mine ( for the thermostat controls ) between the tub and the flexwatt as I do remove tubs completely a t time and I would rip the probes out without thinking. I do spot chec kthe hot spots wit hthe temp gun now and I set at the a prefect 93.7degrees .

Re: Where do you put your temp probe?
A thermostat probe and a thermometer probe go in two different places.
Thermostat probes should be on the outside of the enclosure right on the heating element.
Thermometer probe should go under the substrate right on the glass where the heating element is.
Some people use thicker substrates that can't be easily moved so it is more realistic for them to place the thermometer probe above the substrate. I use aspen and my bps move it around and get right on the plastic so I have to measure right on the plastic.

Quick question about the Acu-rite. Quite a few people say they got theirs at Wal-Mart. What section can it be found it? I'd like to get one too.

Apparently, it's NOT in the garden section as one would guess, but over in hardware with the rest of the thermometers. It also sounds like not every WalMart has them, as the ones with the probe are being replaced by the wireless type.
