heat mat at 120. what do i get to turn it down?

I just measured the temps between the substrate and glass for my UTH and they read 120. I thought it was the top of the substrate to worry about. I feel bad because he has been in there since last night and all day today. I just unplugged it just now. Should I take him out and check on him? Make sure he's not burnt? I just got him yesterday and the breeder said he has yet to eat at roughly 2 weeks old. Should I get a thermostat or rheostat? I am not sure what to use or what it's called. Can I get one for under $20? cuz at petco they want $40 and that's rediculous imo. Thanks for your time and help.

If you need a cheap temperature control method to get you by until you get a proper one, get a dimmer.

Why did you buy a snake that hasn't eaten?

A UTH should never be used without some kind of control. Amazon.com has good prices, but you don't want to wait a week to get it. I have seen some post about a light dimmer, but I can't quote what I don't remember. Look for local people, a club or society, may be some one can lend you a unit.

Also, google and download Ispell. A neat spell checker for on line forms!

The snake was beautiful and I didn't know I am not supposed to buy one that hasn't eaten. And I don't think my spelling is that bad that I need an online spell check... I did not see many mispelled words. regardless, all I want is the name of something I can get at lowes or home depot for less than 20 bucks, i forget what its called but I have heard people say they have got them.

A rheostat in my opinion is only a temporary fix. Go to the home depot and get a piggy pack light dimmer. Plug the UTH into the dimmer and dial the temp down.

Once you have saved enough money, get the reptitemp 500r. It will make you and your snakes lives a lot more comfortable.

Also, do you know if the snake has shed yet? You really shouldn't have bought a snake that hasn't eaten yet. Maybe you could contact the breeder about this. It can be quite hard to get a baby to start eating.

Google Chrome has a spell checker worked into it, if someone doesn't want to download a program. It's a good browser too.

So does firefox. I would be lost without it. D: I can hardly spell on my own now.

Honestly spell check is the last thing on my mind. I spell pretty well anyways, maybe not when I'm rushing and stressed. Should I take out the snake to make sure he's ok? Or should I not disturb him and let him relax more to get used to his home?
