    Clutch 2009 - Update

And then there was one. I just checked on the babies and the one on the right, the deformed one has died. The umbilicus was wrapped around its middle and it was completely unresponsive to touch. I gently reached in and took its head in my fingers and took a good look at the deformed head. It is extremely deformed and I'm not surprised the baby did not make it.

The other baby, however, is doing great! I think he/she is very very close to hatching. I see no deformities so far and the head looks great!

So I was thinking of pulling the dead baby out and snapping a few pictures. I've taken pictures, documenting the entire breeding, laying, and incubation period, and I've taken pictures of the other fetuses that have died, so I might as well take pictures of this little one. We will bury him/her outside tomorrow.

I'll also take pictures of the healthy baby for comparison.

Wow tough break. Natural selection is tough. Best of luck with the one that made it. Was this the het pied project?

Yes, I was hoping for 50% poss het pied females and I'm down to this one. If its a boy, I'm still keeping him, but I'm crossing my fingers for a girl.
