Mite repellant - a few Qs

The mite repellant came in the mail today for my blood, who has mites. (I'm going to treat the rest of my collection too, just to be safe.) I ordered from PetMountain. I ordered "Reptile Relief", the Natural Chemistry brand, which is supposed to be great.

However, the bottle I received is labeled "Reptile Spray". It is by Natural Chemistry.

Is "Reptile Relief" the same thing as "Reptile Spray"? Is it safe to use?


Upon reading the instructions on the bottle, I have a few more questions.

1) It says "do not use near reptile's eyes and face". Isn't that absurd? The mites are congregated around his face. If I can't use this on his face, how is it supposed to work?

2) It says that, after spraying down enclosure, rinse and dry the enclosure. Why? If this product can be used on reptiles without rinsing, why does it say to rinse the enclosure?

Also, should I treat the bearded dragon the same way I treat the snakes? Any suggestions?

I have never used reptile relief, sorry. But in the past I have used olive oil. Just rub all over the snake like you are putting sun tan lotion on. Let the snake sit in another cage, box or what have you for atleast 1 hr. clean out cage and all cage stuff with a water bleach mix. Let air dry for the hour. Wash snake with baby soap, I use baby soap when washing all my snakes. Repeat procedure again in a few days if you happen to see any more mites. It usually works great the first time. Now other people I'm sure will have other ideas but this has worked great for me and for other people that I have told. Hope this helps. I have never had mite problems with any of my dragon's.

You can use a q-tip to get around the snakes eyes and mouth, just don't get too close.

I wouldn't personally use reptile relief to treat an enclosure though. Save that for the PAM.

PAM is a product that is used often.....provent a mite.........Brian from BHB told me that there is a lice product you can get in the pharmacy that works really well....the name is escaping me atm......if you can see the mites, easy on an albino or white area, a flat end toothpick works wonders on the ones you can see, the flat end slides easily under scale and the mite runs away for its life, usually to the next scale lol.

First off that spray isn't first and foremost in Mite eradication, PAM is. That spray WILL help, but it won't kill em all. And, any that have left the snake and layed eggs, the eggs won't be touched. And in a few days, bam, more mites.


Soak the snake in tepid water with a few drops of dish soap for 20 minutes or so.

His exploring will end his head up underwater, drowning the mites located there.

Pull him out and spray him down with the Reptile "SPRAY" its the same stuff as the Relief, just re-named. AVOID EYES and MOUTH, and liberally spray him down. Rub it into his scales and belly so that it kind of "foams" up a bit.

Dry the excess off of him put him back in his cage.

Don't use the Reptile Spray more than every 3 days, you can soak him every day though. That will help drown even more and also rinses off the dead ones as well as the Reptile Spray from the day before.

When the PAM gets in, use THAT on every cage per label instructions, and TRULY be Mite free.
