Ivy is right; keep him in the 20gal for now, and a 40gal breeder is fine for an adult. However, I have found that beardies appreciate extra room. I have my adult beardie in a 4x2x2' viv, and he uses every inch of it. As long as they can find their way around, the bigger the better with these guys.
