To seal or not to seal

I've heard some say that they don't seal their egg boxes in the bator, others gasp at the thought of NOT sealing. I'm curious as to peoples experience with both. So i'll make this a poll. To seal or not to seal. What do you think??

It is up to you, personally I never do, I only use the lid and do not use glad press and seal.

I seal them and dont put holes in the box. I want as high humidity and as stable temps as possible. I don't open the egg boxes until the eggs start to collapse in the final 2-3 weeks. At that time I open them for air exchange every couple days. I don't mess with the eggs once they have gone into the incubator until I cut them. No weighing, candling, moving. For me, it's just better that way.

I have never sealed my egg boxes. I think its just a personal prefference. If you think about it. If your incubator is a tightly sealed unit the press and seal is just a extra expence. Also you dont need to open to freshen up the air if there is a fan in the incubator.

My incubator is certainly not a tightly sealed unit.

I seal mine. The humidity in my incubator is only 20% and would suck the moisture right out of those eggs otherwise.

Seal it....doesn't hurt and its cheap.

I don't seal mine. I tried that and it caused condensation on the eggs. So I just use the lid with a couple of holes drilled. Works very well for me. Once a week I spray the medium with water to rehydrate it from a spray bottle that's kept in the incubator.

I seal and take plastic entirely off at day 45. By the the time condensation might drip on top of egg -- it will not be and issue being that they will be very close to hatching.

Wow, so far it seems to be pretty much 50/50. With alot of reasons for and against. And every reason seems to have merit. I'll let this poll go for a week or so and see if anything definative comes out of it. Keep voting
