If the animal is cared for in a humane matter, we shouldn't chastise people for not connecting with each animal they care for on a personal level.
I'm not sure I implied that people should necessarily bond with food animals, and if I did, I certainly didn't mean to. Quality care doesn't necessarily equal bonding (though bonding it does make it easier to do the work involved) Some people just aren't rodent people (snake people, dog people etc). I just think as large, thinking creatures with the fate of beings much smaller and more vulnerable in our hands (and this is true of mice, snakes, children) that we need to take that seriously. As it's been proven with factory farming if you don't take care of the animals that feed you bad things happen.
