Re: Anybody paying attention to this? My son's graduation...

They can't legally with hold his diploma. They can refuse to give it to him at graduation, but legally they have to give him his diploma. I honestly would be contacting a lawyer if they don't administer it soon.

Secondly, we had beach balls as well, they were confiscated but no one was thrown out. I think it's a "tradition" if you will to have them, although I've never really enjoyed the whole beach ball thing.

Third, Freedom of speech was violated. He was 'thanking' his family and not allowed to graduate, a no-no!

That's all I can calmly write atm.

So by taking a moment to show love and honor and gratitude for the folks who got him to where he was standing, this kid was penalized?

It's no wonder so many kids have so little respect. What would be the point?

Well, parents are organizing and strategizing how to deal with this. And we are trying to get the seniors to compile their experiences into some sort of document we can forward to the school board. Kids cried through their graduation. Kids sat there worried that they would be kicked out when they had done nothing wrong. I think having thier VOICES heard will be good and an important part of this whole thing. I am going to be at monday night's school board meeting. Hopefully I will get to speak. We'll see.

If that were my son I would be contacting an attorney, what happened to him is going to stay with him the rest of his life, like his father said there is no do-over.

I'll leave it at this: Generally, public school administrations anger me without fail, but this superintendent goes above and beyond simple anger.

Re: Anybody paying attention to this? My son's graduation...

My younger sister actually goes to this school. I graduated from there in 2000. Ugh. My graduation had police up the wazoo because of all the bomb threats that had happened during my senior year. Heck, my older sister graduated in 98 and there were fire fighters on call because her class had a rash of trash can fires. I think SAD 6 just goes too far sometimes. My younger sister even told me there has been buzz through the underground that next year's graduation might be cancelled. Students would just get their diplomas by mail or handed out in class or something like that. If that is actually true, I can't say, but I wouldn't put it past them. As much as I have teased the Squirt in the past, I look forward to going to her graduation next year. I hope it actually happens.

If he's an intelligent person with a decent amount of self respect he'll know that that broad was way out of line.

If anything this could well be the inspiration he needs to make a difference in his community or maybe even the world at large.

It is a big deal, not making light of it, but it does not have to be all negative in the long run.

Just came home from the school board meeting. They let parents speak. (Which was a bit in doubt.) I spoke. I felt like the school board was listening. I don't know what is happening next as they kicked everyone out and went to executive session.
