Re: Newly acuired snake with what appears to be a bad case of scale rot

    The treatment sounds just fine.

The antibacterial soap is perfectly okay to use. It gets rid of the triple antibiotic ointment from previous nights and lets the skin air out. This needs to happen! Just rinse, let dry for a bit, then soak in chlorhexidine, dry, apply AB ointment. You don't HAVE to use the Silvadene, which is mainly for worse cases.

I would actually try to raise the heat a bit, preferably to 93-95, cool side is fine, and lower the humidity to around 50%. The least amount of moisture the better. Nice small water bowl so she can't soak.

If you feel she is improving, then there is no need for a vet visit unless you just feel the snake needs to be looked over. I would get a fecal check though just in case.

I rescued a 1 year old Ball last year from a member on this forum. She came to me with a very bad burn on her belly 1/3 down from her neck all the way to her tail. It was blistered and very fluid-filled. Once I got all of the blisters popped, I scrubbed her down with Ivory then soaked her in Chlorhexidine while I scrubbed her belly. Let her dry then lubed her up with neosporin. After one shed, her belly had dried out and the dead tissue was falling off. After 2 sheds, you could barely see that she had been burned and after 3 sheds, you couldn't tell she had ever had a problem. They heal very well when given the proper conditions.

Unless you notice a smell from her belly, I don't forsee a vet visit minus the fecal exam.
