hate to say it,,but you will eventually take a hit,,might be a year or 2,for me was 6 months,,,however,if it makes you feel more at ease,checkout tongs.com,theyve got some nice hooks,hook it out of the enclosure and then transfer to your hand for a little bit til your comfort area is up,i mainly use hooks during breeding,as the main male i used is a biter,and 3 of my females are fast strikers,so i kinda didnt wanna get bit twice at one time.this is the main hook i use http://tongs.com/smallhook.aspx
