Cyprus mulch longevity

Hello. I am using cyprus mulch for my BP. I was wondering how often everyone changes it out. I have heard you can spray it with water to help keep humidity up. Can this cause mold after time and if so how long should I keep it in before putting new in?

Anything that is wet for long periods of time can mold. I do a full substrate change when my snakes shed because they usually dump their load and empty their bladders around the same time

As long as the substrate isn't moist all the way through, it should be fine to keep in there for a month or so.

I used to use that but i recently switched to news paper. If you switch over you will see how much the pee. Yes i know it doesn't look so nice but it is easy to clean. But to get to your question I used to change it every month.

Cypress mulch is mold resistant -- as long as it's not blended. Make sure you get the 100% cypress stuff. With regular spot cleaning it can last quite a while. I've gone as long as 6 months without a full change.

Wow! I've actually been considering switching to cypress mulch myself and was wondering how it compared to aspen(which I'm currently using) in this same respect?

In my short bit of experience with aspen, it molds insanely quick when you do any misting with it. I use it for our corn snake over here but for the balls/bloods its either newspaper or cypress. Just remember, spot cleaning is critical to making it last! Any bit of excrement that you miss WILL mold if you really start wetting it down.
