    Eggs dont look so good

Well I never saw her ovulate, I've been checking her daily, but I guess it happened while I was away. I found these this morning, she must had laid them durring the night. THey dont look so good but they all have veins. Think there's any way to save them?

Re: Eggs dont look so good

They're like that because they're, almost 100% sure, not fertile. It has nothing to do with being in the box overnight. Even a couple of days won't do that to them.

The nipples on the end, the malformation, not egg shaped, all indicate lack of viability.

I COULD be wrong, but when was the last time THAT happened.

The one on the far left and the third one over might make it, the others don't look so good.

Re: Eggs dont look so good

thats what i'm figuring, but I did put them in just to be sure. They're being incubated at 89* and 100% humidity

Edit: its also her first clutch so I figured there'd be some duds

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Those'll be your miracle babies if they hatch. And then it's fun and festive time. Good luck.

Re: Eggs dont look so good

Just an observation... no offense intended.

That tub looks like it is in aweful condition. It looks very dirty, and the water bowl looks near empty with feces in it. If that snake just laid eggs, then it has probably been at least a month or two since it last pooped. So is it safe to assume then that it has not had fresh water in a long time?

I have read before that a BP will not lay the eggs until the conditions are right, and they feel secure... with proper temps and humidity. This is a reach I know... but maybe it was so disatisfied with its living conditions that it tried to hold on to the eggs so long that it ended up messing them up.

Why do you expect duds from a first clutch?

Re: Eggs dont look so good

I did that to make it smaller after I posted it, yes the water bowl needed clean, I actually had the male in her since she was still eatting and I never saw an ovulation, he's the one that dirtied the water the day before. It has since been cleaned and the mom as well.

I expected duds b/c thats what I've read, that there is a higher potential for duds in the first clutch since it is, they're first clutch

I second that remark BUT unlike Mike I could care less about offending you. He makes a good point about a mother not pooping in a long while and I find the state of your female's living conditions unsuitable, disturbing, and cruel. When was the last time you scrubbed her dish? To me that looks like MONTHS of grime. I scrub dishes every week with hot soapy water and a scrubber. If you had been caring for your ball python properly I wouldn't be harping at you. I will honestly say that this disgusts me to a point that I haven't been in a long while (since a chick asked me why her snake wouldn't take its prey, turned out she had been boiling the prey to thaw it ) Please start taking better care of your snakes. Your neglect is evident.
