Positive Feeding Vibes...

I'm going to attempt to feed the newbie again tomorrow (3rd try - he hasn't eaten in at least a month...maybe more - pet shop where he was purchased didn't maintain accurate feeding records) and HOPEFULLY he'll take.

I'm going to take him out to his feeding bin with a FT hopper (moving him up from fuzzies which were WAY too small) for the time it takes to rearrange his tank - move heat pad to under tank for when my thermostat gets here, add two identical, smaller hides, more leaves, and change out my two dial thermometers/humidity gauges for a digital - and then if he hasn't eaten, he and his prey are going in a bag, and back into his tank for the night.

I know he's hungry, he's been prowling for the last few days and attempting to get out (haha, it's locked buddy)...so here's hoping he decides that he loves hoppers!

Good luck! If this fails, I would try again in a week, once he's adjusted to the new set up, and just feed him in his enclosure.

If you're okay with it, I recommend you feed live. I tried 3 times with my new ball python before my mother caved and let me feed him a live hopper.

unless they were trained to eat F/T (most breeder snakes are) you should always start on live and move them over to F/T

step 1) ask the store what they fed him.
step 2) repeat proses
step 3) convert to food item that suits your needs.
step 4) enjoy new friend

He was raised on F/T and I'm hoping to keep him on this cycle as I'm a vegan and would very much like to not have to feed him live food...or have to pre-kill (though I did find someone who would do this for me should I have to resort to this method.)

anyways, thats good then once the snake becomes acclimated and is content with his new home and surroundings he should get on the F/T no issues for you.

HAHAHAHA, especially since I can't even get my husband to eat tofu! Besides, considering the outcome of my past two efforts, my rat dancing skills aren't up to par...I'm sure my tofu rat dancing skills are WAY too poor!

tofu is a love or hat thing lol

and you can try soaking the f/t hopper in 100*F chicken broth for about 15 min prior to offering then use ur feeding tongs to dance it 2-6 inches from the snakes face once it smells it it should eat it.
