varied temps
so one of these days....UGH who knows when!! i want to get into leos. i have doing research on them and stubled across Tempers site. on his site, he says to incubate the eggs for 3 weeks to temp sex and then increase the temp to 90. according to him, this will keep albinos and white morphs from turning brown and, from what i gather, make them more white.
is anyone doing this with their leos??
i like the all white leos so this is a concern for me.

That's interesting.

Re: varied temps
To incubate for a male you need your temps high. So his statement may be true if you want to temp sex for a female (to temp sex for a female you need lower temps). If you are temp sexing for a male since the temps are already high this wouldn't be a problem. I have never tried this nor do I know anybody who has. I am aware of what you are talking about though but I don't know how well it works Seems good in theory....

Re: varied temps
Knowing Ron Tremper's reputation in this industry and the fact that he is raising is 30th generation (if I recall) I am pretty sure is theory very valid. (He does produce some very nice Albinos)
The theory would also work with females, to hatch females you need to incubate them at low temps for the first 3 weeks (to lock in the sex) and then raise the temps (to lock in the color)

Re: varied temps
I did that this year. All my animals are really nice. But then again, the parents are great looking as well. The newest 2 eggs are getting room temp incubation since I'm in the middle of a move to a new state, so i'll let you know the difference between the 7 that hatched so far and the 2 that didn't get 90 degree incubation temps.

Re: varied temps
yeah i figured with ron's rep that it was more than just theory!! i was just curious if anyone has done it so far and the outcome.

Re: varied temps
i was wanting to do this with mine, but i only have 1 incubator they're set at 85, and i've got 2 females laying so i can't do this without another incubator but it's what i was wanting to do with my raptors to keep the colors up but oh well, i've heard you can do a similar thing to keep hatchlings colors by just raising their temps in their tubs as well.
