    Re: Behind the Name

I will extend to all the herps I own (won't list the names though, too many of them)

Ball Pythons it is anything that comes through my mind, famous couples, movie characters, names I like.

Honduran Milksnakes – I have a Greek mythology theme for the names

Leos – I have an Egyptian theme for the names

    Cali Kings anything goes

    Crested anything goes as well.

    Re: Behind the Name

The kids named our very first bp. They named her Curly because she's always curled up unlike the rat snakes that was right next to her viv at the store.

I named our second bp Salazar... guess why... yep! Salazar Slytherin!

My husband named our 3rd bp Sunshine - she's an albino and her yellow color reminded my husband of Sunshine.

My son wanted to name his hognose Sick - because he looked "sick" (the good way... you know, like that's so sick it's wicked!). But, I told him that's not a good name because people might think he is sick... so he changed it to Zick which I thought was a wierd name and can still be mistaken for sick, so we finally settled on Zeke.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

    Re: Behind the Name

My ball pythons names are whatever I think of that sounds interesting:

0.2 Pastels - Dia & Gembi (african names)
0.4 Normals - Malia, Copper, India (she has a dot on her head) and Kenya
0.1 Spider - Arana ("spider" in spanish)
    1.0 Mojave - Mojo (original, I know...)
    1.0 Cinnamon - Kip

The rest don't have names yet.

My corn snakes have somewhat of a theme:

    1.0 Amel - Sunny Tequila
0.1 Motley Snow - Voodoo Tiki (brand of tequila)
0.1 Creamsicle - Margarita (made from tequila)

My albino red tail is "One-Eyed Willie" after the pirate on the Goonies, and because he only has one eye, and because I think it's hilarious telling people I have a One-Eyed Willie (and balls, for that matter) being a chick.

My brazilian rainbow boa is Ajax. I read somewhere that was some Brazilian God name, but I'm not sure I'm buying it. I just like the name.

    Ok I think that's everyone.

    Re: Behind the Name

My first BP was nameless for a little while until I figured out what his name was. I named him James Herriot because he just has that feel about him. I love the James Herriot books. I love how he tells story after story of taking care of animals. All of them. (All Creatures Great and Small even!) I really identify with that kind of human. And James, well he had that feel. He's one of my Creatures Great and Small.

So after James, I decided to name my snakes after people who made a life out of caring for animals in some way. Right now, my snakes are all authors. But eventually, I'll have a Saint Francis of Assissi, a Klimke, etc.

    Re: Behind the Name

I named my Albino BP Rid**** after my favorite sci-fi movie "The Chronicles of Rid****."

The character in the movie is a anti-hero and has these crazy purple eyes to be able to see in the dark and my BP has red eyes.

Also most of my friends treat him like he's going to escape at night and eat me but in reality after they see him and hold him they see how cool he is and that he is not that bad after all (like the movie character). But you better not piss him off or else!

    and that's my story.

    Re: Behind the Name

Oh, you wanted the stories? I thought it was just the themes. Ok...

My very first snake was a red checkered garter named Indy - a double play for Indiana Jones who hated snakes, and the Indy 500 for the checkers.

My first BP was Nagini, because I adore Harry Potter.
The rescued pastel earned the name SunSpot through his (continued) bright yellows and his survival against high odds.
After those two, I tried to always use God/Goddess or mythical names for the snakes, but it didn't always work. For my ghost corn, I wanted a ghostly name but nothing sounded dignified enough, so he was named Mystic. The lavender corn is so purple that nothing but Amethyst fit her. The female pastel BP deserved a sun name like her counterpart, so she is Aurora. But I did use Zeus, Hera, Ares, Venus, Athena, and Achilles.

The leo gecko was named Pyrite because he's a patternless albino (and thus yellow) and he's a bit of a trickster.
The BTS is Topaz in honor of his unusual caramel coloring.
My breeder mice are always named after foods - most often confections.

Actually, my BF/partner is usually the one to suggest the names for all the animals here...and most of the time those names stick. He's really good with names.
The best name story I have, however, is connected to a tortoise. A Hingeback to be precise, with lovely scalloped edges to her shell. I rescued her from someone who knew nothing about the care of tortoises, and sadly she didn't live too long due to parasites the previous owners bad care had brought about, but she got the perfect name. She was a nice reddish orange color... so we named her Rusty. Rusty the Hingeback.
    **Adriana - White 'N Nerdy!**

1.0 BP 'SunSpot', 0.1 Corn 'Freya', 1.0 IJ BTS 'Topaz', 1.0 ND bunny 'Licorice'
