Re: New tub with fresh eco earth

I would try to dry it out instead of waiting for it to do it on its own. While a week's time may not cause an RI, bacteria and mold would love to have an environment like that.

You could take bits of it at a time as not not wholly disturb the snake and either bake it or leave it in the sun, and rotate out the eco earth.

Make alot more holes in the tub ( you could always tape some up if you get too many) And instead of getting an attitude, why not just stop using the ecoearth and switch to newspaper or paper towels? MUCH easier to clean, and much easier to bring down humidity.

Re: New tub with fresh eco earth

I used the eco-earth for a short time. Before you put it in the enclosure you need to dry it out. There are a few problems overly moist substrate can cause.

If you would look around the forum, 90% humidity is FAR too much and yes even for just a week it can be harmful to the snake.

As everyone else has stated, I recommend using aspen. I went from eco-earth to aspen and I will never look back.

It was a simple question of whether or not the snake would be ok in that environment for a short time. Not, what else can I do here? ...or something like that.

Re: New tub with fresh eco earth

The reason, as if it matters, as to why I'm using eco earth is because like I said, I just switched to a tub. Switched from a tank to a tub. I used eco earth in the tank and had one brick leftover. So instead of wasting it, I used it.
