age based on length/weight?
I looked around quite a bit, but maybe I'm just dumb. My snake is 300g and about 2 feet long (not going to stress her to measure since she has a RI). Is there a way to approximate how old she is? (I say she because I don't know her sex and I'm running with female

Re: age based on length/weight?
Depending on feeding frequency and genetics with the animal, I'd say anywhere between 3 and maybe 8 months old. Because she has the RI, she may not have been eating the greatest.
I don't keep ball pythons anymore, so I hope this answer is somewhat close

Re: age based on length/weight?
Ugh. You know, when I consider my "friend" was "power feeding" her a whole mouse each and every week... she's probably younger just fatter. I need to get good pics of her and post because I suspect she is "fat". She's bigger around than the previous 2 bp's I had at her length. I wonder if this contributed to her RI?
Is there a way for me to tell if she's overweight?

Re: age based on length/weight?
A mouse every week sounds fine to me....
Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
Respiratory Infections are caused by inadequate temperatures, too low or too high humidity, and possibly dirty water even. It all depends on each animal, and what they get exposed to.
I doubt her eating too much or too little attributed to an RI.

It is really hard to get a young growing snake overweight...
that said, if you got a snake w/ RI from a friend... I would look for some new friends...

Re: age based on length/weight?
ok, i'll quit worrying about her being fat then. As far as the friend goes, he's going to get a piece of my mind about husbandry and I think he needs to help pay for the meds/syringes. Even if he's broke, I am going to ask him to come on over and do some of the heavier house cleaning I'm too busy to do and hubby is too disabled. I doubt he'll give me any problems. He knows friends don't just drop sick pets in friends laps and expect them to save the day.

Re: age based on length/weight?
A mouse a week is hardly power feeding unless the mice were too big. It doesn't take many months for a BP to be fed on adult mice, and once a week is a fine schedule for feeding young BPs, if not even every 5 days(for young BPs).
Just feed a feeder that is as big around as the thickest part of your snake.. Or alternatively 10-15% the snake's body weight.
