How do YOU keep your room cool?
So my herp room faces the sun most of the day, and is easily approaching the 90 degree mark after some of these hotter days. This is my first summer in our new place, so this is a new problem.
I was thinking of buying a window a/c unit and hooking it up to my spare double Ranco thermostats.
Set it a couple degrees above my oil filled heater set temp, should work like a dream.
What do you guys think?
What do YOU do to keep your room cool on these approaching hot days?

Sounds like the only way to solve the problem. That and some heavy blinds (If the sun is shining through)

Re: How do YOU keep your room cool?
Being in Florida, we have central A/C and keep our whole house at 75 or so all the time. I'd probably do a window unit. I cannot imagine life without A/C lol it would SUCK here.

Re: How do YOU keep your room cool?
What about the days it gets over 100 degrees outside?
It was only 80 degrees here today and my room was 87 degrees with no problem. I don't know what weather in Florida is like, I'll be visiting St.Pete in October for my honeymoon, so I'll find out i guess!
I obviously need some form of cooling for the room, and running the central air is kind of silly when I really just need the one room cooled.
Thanks for the replies, keep em coming!

I live in St Pete!!! You could come see my snakes!
It is hot and humid as hell, sticky, heavy air!
But nice on the beach, I could tell you a lot about St Pete. We're natives.

When it starts to really heat up I will begin to open the a/c vent to that room. I just checked in the room and the temp is 78* so the space heater should kick on for a bit.

Re: How do YOU keep your room cool?
Heavy curtains/blinds will help with the windows. As well there are some reflective coverings you can apply to windows now I believe to deflect sunlight and avoid the room heating up because of it. This might help somewhat with the sunlight issue.
Otherwise the air conditioner is the only way you're going to accomplish your task. That or a serious re-do/think on how you're heating your enclosures.
Even if the airconditioning unit isn't set to cool, but just move hot air OUT that might work somewhat.

Try looking for curtains that have blackout material on the back. Might be a little expensive, but work wonders!!

Re: How do YOU keep your room cool?
I have a ceiling fan that runs all the time. But check this, in the hallway even, with no incoming light on an 80 degree day, is already 85 to 86 degrees as well.
Blackout curtains are an idea, but I want to keep my light cycle in my room. I can also temp gun the walls in that room on a sunny day, and they're very warm as well.
