NY rat breeders?!?
AHHHH!!
I am sick of paying 5 dollars a rat at my local pet shops!! I would feed f/t but they are SOOOO finicky with them. Sometimes they eat them, sometimes they dont. BUT!! If i feed them a live the jump it instantly, so I am thinking that they are a little to acustomed to live. I live in upstate ny, about an hour from the city. I want to start buying off of a breeder or something, cuz this is getting out of hand. I'm paying 30 bucks a week or more sometimes depending on where I got to go, and I only have 4 snakes!!! If someone knows of any NY breeder I would REALL REALL REALLY appreciate it if you could send me a link or a number to where I can go. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Thanks,
Alex

NY is a big state, maybe narrowing it down to a part of the state might help people respond? If you're upstate (Rochester) i know a few people who breed feeders but I dont buy live so I'm not sure of their prices.

I thought about it, but space is kind of an issue. Right now I'm still living at home, and there not crazy about me having the amount of animals that I do. If space wasn't an issue I would soooo do it. Also I always wondered how do you always have the right size rodent? I mean balls are only supposed to be taking small rats right? I mean big females getting ready for breeding season that need to gain a few pounds will get mediums, but mostly you need smalls. Just wondering if there are problems with all of that when breeding your own. Also how many rats should one have in order to maintain a collection of 10 balls?

That's the great thing about ASF's they will never get too big for your balls, like regular rats will.
I'll let someone else like Connie or Mike or Tom Chime in on breeding group sizes, I have 10 snakes with 2 1.3 breeding groups going and another 3 1.3 started from the first breeders

I didn't know that ASF's stayed that small, thats great!
I just wish I had some room, and I don't know about the smell either. I know when I tried breeding mice for a short while, the smell was brutal just after a few days. Where do you get ASF's?

ALSO!!
Being that you have 10, do your breeding groups supply enough for your collection?
