That is a pastel. A very brown one though.
If your not certain, ask for belly shots. That'll tell the tale.

I know if it is it has to be very dark cause I have a female and she is like a highlighter color. And how does looking at the belly tell the tale so to speak?

If the belly is completely white and clear, it almost guarantees the pastel gene is present. (since it also shows all of the other pastel signs, it has the yellow sides and coloration (though much darker than most pastels) and has the pattern of a pastel and the blushing).

ok I got the belly thing but the patterns are different?? This is what my pastel looks like and compared to the other the other looks just like a normal to me!

Re: Can anyone tell me what this looks like??

Pastels have a different pattern. It's much more busy, blushed, and often contains loops and connecting side saddles while normals usually have uniform sides and back stripes/spots.

A pastel's pattern is often all over the place and not as uniform as a normal. It takes looking at quite a few pastels to get used to the difference.
You can also tell that the brown on top of the animal is different than a 'normals' brown as well as the yellow melts into it differently.

There are so many reasons, but mostly it's just from knowing pastels really well. (Pastels are my best morph to pick out, Fires and Vanillas are my worst, and I'm getting better at YBs.
Many would say Fires and Vanillas look identical to normals, as well as YBs, unless you have the experience and eye to point them out.

Edit: Color ranges are very wide in pastels, but you can't determine a pastel based on color alone. Personally, I'd pass on that pastel because I like to pick really bright yellow pastels. But, that's just me.

So in your opinion that is a pastel then? I don't want to be getting a male that is supposed to be a pastel and find out later it isn't! LOL That would suck!

I looked at his photobucket and found that this animal is the same one.

This further proves the pattern differences. If you look at the scales, it's almost as if they are surrounded by a line of yellow, because that shows the areas that have browned out over time.

Yes, it's a pastel. And I guess I have to say it's in my opinion, but I really am pretty sure on this one that it is in fact a pastel.

Yeah I see the yellow blending into the brown on the sides in that pic but I don't think that is the one I am getting.

Those are both the same animal.
If you look at the patterns, they match up. (unfortunately the tail covers his neck in the first picture or those two neck spots in the second picture would give it away, but the 8 halfway down the upper section is shown identically in both pictures).
