    EMERGENCY! Power outage

For reasons unknown our power has gone out and has not come back. Im writing this from my phone. My incubator no longer has power. We have taped over the refridgerators seal and wrapped a blanket around it. The temp was sitting at 87.8 when I checked on the eggs before the power went out. How long will the temp stay at safe incubating temps? When should we go in and put heat packs in? Will the heat packs even work? What should I do if the power does not come back for several hours?

Power is back on. Haha only minutes after posting. Now the incubator was without power for a good half hour. Do you think the temp held?

probably fine. eggs should be able to handle short temp fluctuations. a half hour to an hour even as low as the 70's should be fine.

I remember last season Tim Bailey (muddoc) posted about a power outage or something similar that had caused some temp fluctuations in his incubator. As I recall, all eggs hatched out fine. You could probably do a search and find the relevant threads.

    Re: EMERGENCY! Power outage

I bought these power outlets for computer servers that are backed up by battery power; the larger batteries (and they last a long time). They aren't that expensive especially if you have an incubator with lil' ones in it!! Hope that helps, I live in Ohio and the winter storms here often take out power lines with frozen branches falling.

I'm going to get one of those before the next breeding season starts.
