    Question plugs???

What exactly is this and how do you know if your male is producing them?

    Re: plugs???

plugs on a male are simple to spot .
what they are is like a membrane that plugs the hemi's . if you were to pop the male and there looked to be some fleshy type substance where the Hemi's should be poping out thats the plugs .
males usually will start producing plugs anywhere from 6 months old up.

it usually (at least from my exp..) tends to be a white'ish color .it kind of resembles shed skin thats been soaking in water . and if you pop your male and you see these plugs you can actually remove them , by pulling it gently .

    hope this helps
I love it when people tell me, "You should think before you speak!" I'm like, "I did. It's what I think and I really don't give a crap what other people think."

Thanks that helps alot!! But why would you want to remove them?? And I watched a vid from 8 ball that I found on an old thread but still am sort of unsure what to look for. I know what the hemipenes looks like and so the plugs are attached to it?

    Re: plugs???

well if your male is producing plugs some people remove them and put the male in with a female , cause once the plugs are gone he's free to breed ..

ok best way i can think of for a visual to what it would be like
(lol it may not be the best refference but im sure it will give you a picture)

think of a cut off garden hose , now roll up some papertowels and shove it in the opened end of the hose , think of the paper towels as the plug and the hose is the skin or shaft around the hemi's , the hemi's wont pop out while the plugs there until either its been removed or they fall out ..

i had a couple males that produced plugs and i pulled them out . if i had thought about it as a tutorial before hand i would have snapped some pics to help . but sorry i didnt take any .

That was a great analogy!! That pretty much summed it up very good. Now another question. Would i have to remove the plugs in order to breed my males?? Also how often do they fall out and when they do fall out will I be bale to see them in their tub?
