Which enclosure?
I am getting a hatchling blood python tomorrow via mail.
I know that a proper enclosure measures 200-300 square inches. I have two tubs; one that is 140 square inches and one that is 345 square inches. Until I can get a properly sized tub, which enclosure should I use?
I'm not sure of the exact age or length, but he's under 6mo old.
Which enclosure should I go with? A bit too big, or a bit too small?

I'd go a bit too small unless he is super cramped in it.

Re: Which enclosure?
Connie put it very well.
Under 6 months of age, Id say anything smaller than a 32qt would be ok. Just make sure he/she has a tight fitting hide.
I've kept babies in this kind of setup without any problems, every animal is different though.

Re: Which enclosure?
That smaller tub should be about right. I have a couple youngins in small tubs like that and they are thriving. I also use newspaper to line the bottom and shred and crumble little strips for them to hide under. Works like a charm. I think they like being able to ambush their prey from under the newspaper and they seem to feel more secure (comfortable/secure snake means nicer snake IMO).

Re: Which enclosure?
Thanks, guys. I didn't check the thread before going to bed last night, so I ended up using the larger tub.
He is almost exactly as long as the tub - 23".
Here's my setup description: two hides, both a bit large (I originally had a cozy little one, but he tipped it over right away) that have bits of crumpled newspaper inside to make them more snug, water dish, and crumpled newspaper all over.
I may be "reading" him the wrong way, but he seemed really comfortable. When I first put him in, he looked around, went in the hides, came back out, drank for a very long time, and kind of hung out for ten minutes or so before going in one of the hides. And that was with several people watching him. He seemed relaxed, but I could be wrong.
I'd like to keep him in the large bin, wait a week or so, and try feeding. If he doesn't take food, I'll move him into a smaller tub. If he does, I'll assume he's not feeling stressed or uncomfortable. Does this sound ok?
