What am I missing?
As I mentioned on another thread, I'm planning to get another BP - hopefully this weekend at the herp expo in Daly City. Money is a little tight right now, so I'm doing it bargain style... I've been shopping on craigslist, and already found a FREE 20-gallon glass aquarium & various supplies for sale. I'm hoping to pick up the free tank tomorrow, and just emailed somebody who has the following items (from their recently deceased iguana):
- Zoomed ReptiSun 5.0 26 watt UVB compact fluorescent light run for approx 100 hrs
- Repticare 60 watt screw-in ceramic heat emitter (run approx 480 hrs)
- Reptisun 60 watt red light bulb (run approx 100 hours)
- Fluker Clamp Lamp
- at least one stone-type water dish
- at least one chunk of grapewood for sunning
I've read the sticky threads on setting up a tank, but I am still a little confused. Will I need an UTH if I use the ceramic heater and lights? And do I need both of those lights for a BP? I'll study that thread further once I get the stuff, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Also want to see if the supplies listed above are appropriate/useful, before I make any offers - they're asking $40 OBO for everything. TIA for any advice!

Re: What am I missing?
P.S. Before anyone questions/comments... my cash-flow shortage is only temporary, and I'm always able to care for my pets. I would wait on getting the snake, but I really want to hit that expo next weekend!!

Re: What am I missing?
BP's dont require the UV light, and lights can be dangerous and cause burns. If the light is up high, the snake my try to get to it and then you have another problem if he/she is rubbing on the screen lid. Personally i would use a UTH with Proportional Thermostat and or (bargain friendly...Dimmer switch)
I have never used the heat emitters so i am not sure, but I would still be careful with it!

Re: What am I missing?
So, should I forget about that collection of stuff? Is anything on that list useful for a BP? Thanks for the reply!

Re: What am I missing?
the water dish???? LOL
the set up for lizards and BP are totally different.
another issue with the aquarium, is keeping the humidy up.
take a towel and cover about 3/4 or 2/3 of the screen lid, that will help some.
If you get the tank, a UTH pad isn't but about 20 bucks, dimmer switch is 8 bucks at a hardware store. Invest wisely in hygrometer and thermometer!
Digital, not analog!

Re: What am I missing?
I just purchased a bunch of stuff today. Check it...water dish = any grocery store just buy the gladware containers, theyre super cheap. Walmart has a digital hygro/thermometer for 10 bucks, by Accu-rite. They also have the dimmer switches, I bought the rotary kind for just 4.96. The hides I bought were 1.25 from the lawn and garden department of walmart. Theyre the terracotta clay pots. Modify them so the snake can get in and out and put one on the hot and cool side. Dont worry about sunning, hes not gonna come out to sun but he will come out to bask in the "moonlight." I also bought a zoomed power strip, it has 2 day outlets, 2 night outlets and 4 always on outlets with a built in timer. Hope this helps.

Thanks to both of you! I'll print out the info, and go shopping this week... we unfortunately don't have a Walmart nearby, but I'll see if Target or a pet store has those items.

Re: What am I missing?
Anywhere that has a lawn and garden section will work. If not walmart, then home depot, albertsons, target, etc.
