You should not have tried to handle while in blue and you probably should have adhered to the 1 week no touchy no feedy rule. Let the snake adjust, even if you can't hardly stand it. Only thing you should be doing is changing the water and spot cleaning as necessary, while trying not to disturb your new pet.
Then after the adjustment period, handle for short intervals gradually lengthening them with time and patience. Oh and good luck
