Testy BP
i have owned dnakes in he past but only from tiny babies from a pet store.
the one i have now was with 1 family for 2 years and the guy said she was very docile and never even looked like she wanted to bite anyone, however!
since being here she is very testy and has hissed at me once and struck at me another time, and always in a strike position when i go to get her out.
im sure some of you have had older snakes from people before, is it just all about time and she will get better with it?
it bothers me to try pick her up right now lol..

How long have you had her? She might need some time to adjust to her new environment and feels threatened when you try to pick her up.

3 days and two of them days were her going thru her last shedding days, she is still in her old tank tho.
the guy i got her from gave me her heat lamp which had a 60w light bulb that i went and changed and put a 75w exo-terra heat glo bulb in (infrared).
she let me hadle her at her old house fine, he just grabbed her out the tank and put her in my hands, no worries, as soon as she got here... she is like a different snake.

Re: Testy BP
Maybe she needs a week or two to get adjusted. Yeah she is still in the same tank but in a different outside environment. Is there alot of traffic where you have the tank? Do you have the temps right? Also does she have 2 hides one on the "hot" side and one on the "cool" side? Maybe try not to second guess your attempt to get her out. Do you hesitate when trying to get her out? Has she eaten yet? I know alot of questions but could all be a factor.

Re: Testy BP
She should get over it but I do have a spider male that still gets in the strike position everytime we open his tub and we have had him a few months. He doesn't strike as often as he use to b ut he seems always ready to.We have 7 others and none of them are aggresive at all. She may just need some time to settle in and not be bothered unles you need to feed or clean.

Re: Testy BP
nope, she has only 1 hide spot, but thats what she has always had, she has the same cage and same hide log and water dish and climbing branches that she always has had.
yep i do hesitate now lol, she strikes like lightning lol.
i got her out and let her roam the room yesterday the morning after she shed so i could clean her tank out completely and also feed her, she has the quietest room in the place to her self! unless im on the pc, then she watches me while im on the computer, her damn food bit me on the thumb too! LOL.
i think ill feed her another mouse tomorrow, see if that helps.
the guy who had her before me used to feed her 1 every 2 weeks, but i want to do it 1 per week.
he also used to feed her in her actual tank, which im also going to change.
i been bit by snakes before, dont like it much.. my boa i had years back had a hella snap on him and that hurt bad, i wanna lower the risk of bites as much as poss lol.

Well only one mouse evrey two weeks depending on how old she is isn't good. I have yearlings that eat 2 mice a week. As far as the feeding in a different take that is up to your preference because that is a torn subject on here. I personally feed mine by hand in their tubs and have not had one strike at me at all. Not saying it never will but I take a few precautions. I sanatize with hand sanitizer before and after handeling to get rid of germs and any food smells. Maybe try another hide and you didn't mention the temps. Are they in the correct range??

Re: Testy BP
You should not have tried to handle while in blue and you probably should have adhered to the 1 week no touchy no feedy rule. Let the snake adjust, even if you can't hardly stand it. Only thing you should be doing is changing the water and spot cleaning as necessary, while trying not to disturb your new pet.
Then after the adjustment period, handle for short intervals gradually lengthening them with time and patience. Oh and good luck
