Re: California, do your part!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
Yesterday there was a hearing scheduled for AB 1122 in the California Assembly in front of the Appropriations Committee. It was canceled at the last minute by the bill's author. This was likely due to the efforts of USARK, The Reptile Nation and many other groups opposed to the bill. USARK and the Reptile Nation were responsible for 5,127 emails and hundreds of phone calls to the Assembly Members on the Appropriations Committee over a 24 hour period. There were many other animal interests that mobilized against AB 1122 as well... but USARK is not able to track their efforts as we are able to do for our own members. This is not over! This bill will probably be scheduled for a new hearing in the near future. Stay Vigilant!

Re: California, do your part!!
I sent my emails and made phone calls.
It amazes me with all the economic problems that the gov spends energy attacking the little guys who actually care about the animals.
The irony of this bill is they want to do away with business that is not through pet stores for the sake of the animals. The reality is its the small independent breeders who take much more pride and care of their animals then the puppy mills, mass importers or pet stores.
As we always say here dont get reptiles from a pet store but rather from a private breeder. Pet store animals are neglected, possibly parasite plauged imports that are given very little personal attention by people with very limited knowlege who spend the least amount of $ for their well being. I have a guy who works at a petstore and calls me when a reptile is sick because their boss wont do anything to help them or pay a dime for their care.
This bill designed to diminish animal suffering may actually do the opposite!
What we need is more education and awareness not ignorant laws!

Thats the master plan. They want to piss everyone off about one thing so we wont complain about the crappy economy. Just the little conspiracy theorist(sp) in me.
